Overview

Preschoolers are more likely to be expelled than children in any other grade. When they exhibit disruptive behavior, early childhood educators are key to early identification that leads to the additional support they need. Helping young children regulate their emotions and building relationships with their caregivers are crucial components of lifelong well-being and success.

Kognito's At-Risk for Early Childhood Educators equips preschool teachers with communication skills to help students ages 3-5 who need more support. Through interactive role-play scenarios, teachers practice managing disruptive behavior in the classroom, talking one-on-one with a student, engaging with caregivers, and exercising self-regulation. School administrators can track usage and measure changes in attitudes and behavior among their staff. Users have access to customized national, local, and school-specific resources in addition to simulation content.

The goal of At-Risk for Early Childhood Educators is to harness the power of conversation to support social emotional learning and resilience of children in early grades.

Learning objectives:

  • Identify signs that a young child in your care might need emotional support
  • Intervene appropriately in response to behavioral challenges or social emotional skills deficits
  • Bring up concerns with a caregiver and collaborate on a plan
  • Practice emotional self-regulation to be better prepared to support your classroom

Research shows that with experiential practice, increased emotional engagement and reflective thinking leads to stronger self-efficacy and behavior change.

Users receive customized feedback based on their in-simulation choices.

The simulation is available online 24/7. Users are asked to complete pre-, post-, and 3-month follow up surveys to assess changes in skills. Attitudes, and behavior. Upon completion, users receive a certificate of completion.  Clients have access to usage reports and evaluation data via the Kognito client portal.
