growth perspective

Positive student outcomes are a key measurement of success in school districts. A key component of a student's ability to be successful both academically and in life is their ability to demonstrate resiliency and move on after a setback.

Learning through realistic conversation practice and the Recognize, Reassess and Reframe strategy, students help each other examine their thoughts and reactions and then build positive, realistic perspectives about themselves, their goals and growth through challenges. Friend2Friend: Resiliency & Growth helps students develop resiliency and a growth perspective to see challenges as opportunities for reflection and reframing of that experience.

Students, educators, and staff have access to customized national, local, and school-specific resources in addition to simulation content.

The goal of Friend2Friend: Resiliency & Growth is to build learner ability to recognize emotions, reassess and reframe unhelpful or unrealistic thoughts, and navigate failures as they set goals for future success.

Learning objectives:

  • Name and manage the emotions from challenges and failures
  • Recognize emotions and unhelpful thoughts and use self-talk to reframe them
  • Learn and grow from experiences, including failure
  • Analyze mistakes to see what can be learned
  • Plan for skills, values, and resources that can help in the future

Evidence-based models and techniques, game mechanics, and key learning and assessment principles ensure users stay engaged and emerge with a deeper understanding of their ability to use their new skills in real life. Research shows that with experiential practice, increased emotional engagement and reflective thinking leads to stronger self-efficacy and behavior change.

Education professionals and professionals that have conducted research and evaluation on this topic have contributed to the simulation content.

Learners receive customized feedback based on their in-simulation choices.

The simulation is available online 24/7. Users are asked to complete pre-, post-, and 3-month follow up surveys to assess changes in skills, attitudes, and behavior. Upon completion, users receive a certificate of completion. Clients have access to usage reports and evaluation data via the Kognito client portal.
