Responding to a Death,
Crisis Response,
Postvention
An interactive role-play simulation to prepare schools for responding to a death in the school community. Teachers and administrators learn key elements of a crisis response plan, including postvention, and best practices for communicating with students and colleagues impacted by a loss in the school.
Assume the role of an educator or administrator in different situations related to the impact of a loss in the school community and how to prepare for a death in the school. Practice talking with virtual students and colleagues in role-play conversations.

Two weeks ago, one of Amy’s peers died by suicide. Since then, she’s been withdrawn in class. Your goals are to check in with Amy, acknowledge and normalize her emotions, and, if necessary, connect her with support services.
Following a student death by suicide at school, Ms. Park seems on edge. Your goals are to check in with Ms. Park, investigate signs of distress, and advocate for self-care.
Learn about key elements of a crisis response plan and postvention that are vital to supporting the social and emotional health of your school community.
Virtual coach Jackie sums up the key learning objectives from the simulation.
Throughout the simulation, users have access to a PDF toolkit of best practices, printable summary, and other resources. Kognito customizes this web page for each client.
